Support urgent need with Justice for Migrant Families

Team 6 has decided to send $250 to JFMF and wants UUCC members to help us
match that amount this week of Thanksgiving.

Background: UUCC has for a long time supported the work of Justice for Migrant Families, which provides funds for the commissary accounts of people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Batavia, NY at the Federal Detention Facility there. JFMF also has the mission of assisting people who are released from detention with only the belongings that they had when they came (which may be summer clothing and sandals). Recently there has been a sudden flood of people being released, so that rather than the 4-8 people who might come out, suddenly 34 people were released this past week. Each of these people need some basic material goods (winter jacket, backpack with underwear, socks, hygiene items, water bottle and snacks and $20). But the bigger need is for the bus fare, which averages $200, to assist someone to go somewhere in the USA where they have friends or family.

Obviously, coming up with thousands of dollars immediately has been difficult, and JFMF has sent out a plea for allies of immigrant justice to help by donating via the links on their website. Click on the orange DONATE button to send JFMF funds via PayPal. In the PayPal memo, you can put “UUCC” so that JFMF will know who has been assisting them.

Thank you in advance for rising to the challenge and working with Team 6 to support JFMF in this challenge as you are able.

JFMF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice for migrant families by providing support to individuals in the federal detention facility in Batavia, information and resources to families in the community, and advocacy both within and beyond the local community.
